Eyewa Receives New Investment from General Atlantic

Dubai-based eyewear startup Eyewa has recently received an undisclosed amount of investment from
US private equity firm General Atlantic, as reported by The Information. The funding was secured earlier this year but has not yet been announced publicly.

Eyewa has experienced rapid growth since its last public funding announcement, a $21 million Series B round in June 2021. The company has expanded its retail presence significantly, now operating over 120 stores across the region, nearly 100 of which are in Saudi Arabia. Eyewa opened its first physical store in Dahran in 2021, marking a shift from its initial online-only business model to include physical retail locations.

Founded in 2017 by Mehdi Oudghiri and Anass Boumediene, Eyewa has become the largest online eyewear retailer in the GCC. The company offers a broad range of eyewear products, including prescription glasses, sunglasses, blue light glasses, and contact lenses through its website, mobile apps, and now its retail stores. This strategic expansion has helped cement Eyewa's position as a leading player in the eyewear industry.

This is General Atlantic’s second investment in the region, following a $120 million investment in Property Finder in 2018, highlighting the firm’s continued interest in supporting high-potential businesses in the Middle East.
